Steel Bars

We plant steel bars on our windows
We water them with fear
We bare our teeth, bear our rifles
So no soul wanders near

We grow steel bars on our windows
We lock ourselves inside
We hide from life and know not that
'Tis from ourselves we hide

Fragile are the panes of glass
With stone they are torn asunder
Windows let the villians pass
Riches from hearth they plunder

Truly endless is the malice of man
Yet perhaps we can make a start
Do you think that with love one can
Pry the bars around the heart?

Welcome back mirvat. Hope you're having a wonderful time :)

Endless is the malice of man
Yet endless too the love he casts
If armed with love no boulder can
Shatter or scratch those panes of glass

Fouad, this was so beautiful and just as importantly, so true.

'tis from ourselves we hide.

Isn't that our biggest fear.As people. As nations. Not knowing ourselves? Not knowing what it is and who it is we are?

Thank you for this post.

exceptionally apropos... reminded me of that song of Piaf..
Je sais comment...
Comment scier tous ces barreaux
Qui sont là en guise de rideaux.
Je sais comment...
Comment faire sauter les verrous
Entre la liberté et nous...

and do you know how the song ends?

We plant them.We grow them.We seek shelter in their shade even when the light in this photograph is only hitting the barred window.Interesting.A positive perspective maybe?

Sous un ciel bleu.
Je sais comment avoir le cœur
Libre et heureux...

There is a truth every child learns,
Whenever he breaks his little toy,
That in his soul something yearns,
To see what else he can destroy.

I would prefer...

We plant bars on our windows
and water them with fear
We bare our teeth, bear our rifles
at souls who wanders near

The bars upon our windows
lock ourselves inside
We hide from life and know not what
causes us to hide
