That the mother bird had enough of their whining and decided to leave them with their dead-beat dad while she went out and did her beak or something?

It’s early in the morning and the kids are off schooling
And dad is at work coz he won’t take no slacking the big bird who’s running the branch he works for
And poor mom who has been just cooking and cleaning
Took a break for a quick chirp with the neighbors nest door :)
